Η Δρ. Μαρία Μήτσιου ανέλαβε διοικητικά από θέση Προέδρου και Γεν. Γραμματέως φιλανθρωπικό Σωματείο Ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας με πολύπτυχη δράση σε κοινωνικά ευπαθείς ομάδες. 
Υπήρξε  Υπ. Περιφερειακή Σύμβουλος  του Νομού Θεσσαλονίκης, το Νοέμβριο του 2010, με το συνδυασμό »Δύναμη για την Περιφέρεια Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας» και συνεχίζει τη δράση στην Β. Ελλάδα. Παράλληλα συμμετείχε ως μέλος των Πολιτικών Κύκλων Δράσης, Κοινωνικών και Μορφωτικών Υποθέσεων και από τη θέση της Υπεύθυνης Εθελοντισμού & ΜΚΟ της ΝΟΔΕ Κεντρικού Τομέα Θεσσαλονίκης. Το 2012 κατήλθε στον πολιτικό στίβο ως υποψήφια βουλευτής στην Α’ Θεσσαλονίκης. Έκτοτε παραμένει στις επάλξεις, συμμετέχοντας στην κοινοβουλευτική ομάδα εργασίας του Τομέα Μακεδονίας-Θράκης και του Τομέα της Υγείας. 
Ακόμη, έχει ενεργό συμμετοχή ως μέλος, αλλά και με τις ομιλίες της σε σωματεία αθλητισμού, εθελοντισμού και νεολαίας, με έντονη κοινωνική προσφορά και συμμετοχή στα δρώμενα της Β. Ελλάδος.

Dr. Mitsiou Maria is a Special-Adapted Physical Education Teacher who graduated from the Department of the of Physical Education and Sport Science (DPESS) of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and from the Department of Physiotherapy of Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (ATEITH) with speciality in Musculoskeletal Disorders. She is certified in Greek sign language and in reading and writing Braille.  She authored her M.Sc. Thesis: “Effect of trampoline-based intervention program in static balance of children with developmental coordination disorder” from the M.Sc. program “Physical activity and Quality of Life” from the Developmental Medicine and Special Education Laboratory of the DPESS of AUTh, focusing on Psychomotor Therapy and Ph.D. Thesis about: “Effects of music, exercise and physical therapy during haemodialysis on the cardiac autonomous nervous system” from the Sports Medicine Laboratory from the DPESS of AUTh with speciality in Cardiac Rehabilitation. In between her Ph.D. studies she received a training fellowship as the Best PhD student from the Research Committee (AUTH). She is active in a) higher education focused on topics of Sports Medicine, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity, Disability and Rehabilitation, Chronic diseases and Rehabilitation, Adapted Physical Therapy, Quality of Life, Special Education, Telerehabilitation b) research where she has participated in research programs and is a Research Associate at Sports Medicine Laboratory (DPESS, AUTh), at Developmental Medicine and Special Education Laboratory (DPESS, AUTh), and at AHEPA University General Hospital of Thessaloniki, c) technical education in themes related to paramedics d) consulting where she is driven towards research and business proposals about Health and Wellness Tourism for higher education institutions and Businesses e) Supportive Counselling and Journalism. She is a Volunteer First Aid Instructor and Nurse in Red Cross Department of Thessaloniki since 2009.
